Christopher Cohen came a highly creditable ninth position at the Blackheath and Bromley Cross-Country Challenge, run at the Sparrow's Den course in Bromley. After racing in the national championships on Saturday he was well prepared to do well and even though competing against pupils a year older he fought back from eleventh to ninth in an impressive sprint finish from 300 metres out, gradually picking off the possible targets. Chip Marden also gained places in the finishing straight to finish a creditable 18th position too.
In the Open race both athletes paced themselves well and kept up a steady pace on the flat. They gained places too by pumping arms in the steep wooded section. Year 9 pupils, Alistair Bishop and Zachary Burgess came 34th and 46th respectively. This was a fine achievement considering there were athletes up to year 13 in their race.
