We are excited to present a rare and outstanding opportunity for a dynamic, forward-thinking, and energetic Head of Food and Nutrition to lead our thriving Food Department across both our Tunbridge Wells and Sevenoaks sites. This is an exceptional chance for an ambitious teacher or an existing Head of Department to further develop their leadership experience while shaping the future of Food and Nutrition at TWGSB. This is a role for a leader who wants to make a genuine impact and leave a legacy.

The Food and Nutrition Department aims to develop its students’ curiosity and understanding of the world around them through the products they use and the food they eat. The ‘hands-on’ practical aspects of the course serve to develop students’ skills and confidence with ingredients and kitchen equipment. At KS3 the curriculum explores the different areas of The Eatwell Guide so that students understand how a balance of good health is achieved. At KS4 students can continue their learning in food by opting to take Food Preparation and Nutrition at GCSE.

The Food Department at Tunbridge Wells is located in a new school building, which opened in September 2021. The food room is spacious, with air-conditioning, induction hobs and blast chiller. There is an additional theory area in the room with interactive whiteboard. Additionally, the location of the food room means students have easy access to the new IT rooms for NEAs. The Food Department is supported by two exceptional Food Technicians, one at each campus.

Purpose of the job

The Head of Food and Nutrition will play a pivotal role in elevating student attainment and driving curriculum excellence. They will take lead responsibility for providing leadership and management within their subject area, in order to secure:

  • High-quality teaching
  • Effective use of resources
  • Improved standards of learning and achievement for all

They will also contribute to the safeguarding and promotion of the welfare and personal care of children and young people with regard to the area child protection procedures.

This position would suit an experienced Food teacher already within a large department ready to step up or a HOD within a smaller school who is looking to increase their leadership skills and impact. You will have a proven track record in academic success and curriculum innovation.

Joining TWGSB means becoming part of an ambitious, supportive and collaborative school environment. We are proud to offer:

  • Highly motivated, capable and engaged students
  • A supportive leadership team, including the dedicated guidance of an Assistant Headteacher
  • Excellent Food facilities, equipment and resources to support high-quality curriculum delivery
  • A welcoming and inclusive staff culture, where collaboration and well-being matter
  • Opportunities for ongoing professional development and career progression
  • A chance to help shape – and expand – a department with an already strong reputation

You will join a talented, multidisciplinary team committed to providing a personalised and holistic approach to education and student well-being.

The larger campus for TWGSB is in Tunbridge Wells. However, you will be required to work at other campuses connected to TWGSB.

Tunbridge Wells Grammar School for Boys is one of the largest boys’ grammar schools in the country. In late 2021, we benefited from a multi-million pound investment, which resulted in a brand-new sports building at our Tunbridge Wells campus and the opening of our Sevenoaks campus.

We can offer you the opportunity to work with highly able young people in a supportive, well-equipped and forward-thinking school. We offer a friendly and inclusive working environment and the chance to be part of a fantastic multidisciplinary team, who work hard and support each other to deliver personalised, bespoke education and care.
