We are seeking to appoint an organised and enthusiastic Assistant Librarian to join our respected library team.

The role of the Assistant Librarian is to help the Head Librarian support the learning of students in the context of the library across the whole school. You will help to ensure that the library is at the heart of school life and be a beacon for the importance of reading within the school.

You would be responsible for the issuing and return of library stock and supervising students, while ensuring a quiet, well-regulated academic environment conducive to study throughout the school day. You should have good communication, interpersonal and customer relation skills along with a flexible approach to your work and the ability to work on your own initiative.

You may be required occasionally to work at either campus for library events (day and evening), open days/evenings, training, INSET days and cover for library staff absence.

About the Library in Tunbridge Wells

The library is an academic hub of the school and is dynamic, bright and friendly. It is very well used with over 1,000 students of all ages using it per week for a variety of reasons, from reading, research, private study and book clubs.

We are currently undergoing a period of transformational change benefiting from a multi-million pound investment in Tunbridge Wells and a brand new building at our Sevenoaks campus, which opened in September 2021. Since September 2025 Tunbridge Wells Grammar School for Boys has become one of the largest boys’ grammar schools in the country. Here we all share the same vision: ‘To be the best selective boys’ school in West Kent’ and our journey towards achieving this continues to be an exciting one.

We can offer you the opportunity to work with highly able young people in a supportive, well-equipped and forward-thinking school. We offer a friendly and inclusive working environment and the chance to be part of a fantastic multidisciplinary team, who work hard and support each other to deliver personalised, bespoke education and care.

Staff benefit from a positive working environment, with strong support for professional development and specialist teaching rooms. We aim for high standards and the pursuit of academic excellence, helping every student to reach their full potential through the development of skills, concepts and knowledge, within the framework of a caring community. Relationships between staff and students are based on trust, mutual respect and a determination to succeed.

Please note that we will only accept CVs that are accompanied by an application form (see below). We shall review applications as we receive them so apply early! We reserve the right to close this vacancy early if we receive sufficient applications for the role.
