Study Areas and Resources

The Sixth Form has a dedicated building with spaces for silent private study upstairs and work tables downstairs where students can study in a more informal setting. In addition, there is an area with access to computers. Throughout the day Sixth Form students can also go to Dining Room 1 to work, or into department areas, particularly for practical subjects where they can use the specialist equipment and work on coursework projects.

The library is in the Main Block on the Senior Leaders’ corridor. Sixth Formers are welcome to use the library during lesson time for personal silent study. It holds a collection of subject-specific wider reading texts for A Level study. Sixth Form students are encouraged to use these texts to support their learning. Wider reading is encouraged to deepen knowledge, enrich exam technique and polish preparation for university interviews.

  • The library has a copy of almost all books on the Sixth Form Wider Reading Lists (see below) and will consider purchasing additional books or journal articles to support EPQ.
  • Staff can assist with the use of JSTOR – a university standard database of academic journals and articles.
  • The library has daily newspapers to keep abreast of current affairs.
  • We have a collection of young adult fiction as well as classics – ancient and modern for reading for pleasure.

The majority of items are available for a 28-day loan period, and some reference material may be borrowed overnight.

Computers in the library and in the Sixth Form Study Centre are available for research and completion of assignments.
